When considering what type of leadership theory to put into practice, there are some things you need to think about.

First off, for a theory to become successful, it needs to be put into practice. Depending on what you want you want to achieve, you will want to choose a leadership theory that fits with your goals.

There are various types of leadership theories that you will want to explore. I’ll explain a few of them concisely.

Ethical leadership focuses on the purpose of why things are done and moral standards. Ethical leaders don’t necessarily neglect other aspects of an organization; they just focus on the why.

Situational leadership focuses on followers. Situational leaders learn what kind of followers they have and how to help them best.

If you think about it, all leadership styles revolve around the leadership theory that there are basically four categories: telling, selling, participatory, and delegating.

Strategic leadership focuses on making goals a reality. Strategic leaders use vision, missing, and strategy to provoke action.

Even though there are many leadership styles, it takes practice to make each one successful. For a leadership theory to become successful, you need to practice five strategies:

1. Constantly learn more. If you want to implement a certain leadership style, you need to learn everything you can about that style.

2. Get some feedback. When you start to implement your desired leadership style, you need to understand what kind of results you are producing. Find out from others around you. This will help you learn if you need make any adjustments.

3. Ponder the feedback. Think about what others have said about your actions. Review what they say in your mind. Try next time, when there is a similar situation to do things differently.

4. Try new approaches. The only way you will ever improve is if you are willing to take risks. Try new ways to motivate, set goals, plan, get things done, etc.

5. Use the skills you have learned in other situations. Don’t just limit using your skills in your business life. Find opportunities where you can use your skills in other areas of your life.
